Common Performance Upgrades
Larger Turbocharger
Every diesel engine comes equipped with a turbocharger, and although they’re generally quite powerful, upgrading them to something larger is always an option. For those that aren’t familiar with how turbochargers work, they’re essentially a method in which the air that enters your engine is compressed. This increases the overall quantity of air, allowing more fuel to burn and more power to be produced. Do keep in mind that if you install a turbocharger that’s too big for your engine, you may lessen the lifespan of your engine’s inner components as they may be forced to work harder than they were designed to.
Cold Air Intake
By installing a cold air intake, you’re allowing cold air to enter your engine rather than warm air. This is a substantial performance upgrade because cold air is much denser than warm air, meaning more air enters your engine overall. This allows for more diesel fuel to burn and more power to be produced. Cold air intakes are very common in both the heavy-duty and automotive industries and, as such, are never a bad idea.
