Signs Your Frame is Bent
After an accident your frame almost certainly comes out the other side with a bend or warp. A rollover or collision will leave obvious bends or breaks. The angle of your truck or trailer may clearly be off kilter. Where it gets more complicated is frame bends that show up as a result of regular use. These may be subtle and hard to spot with the naked eye. For your truck the angle may feel off, or like you’re veering to the side. There may be added wear too as other parts will be out of alignment. For a trailer it may be missing the usual upward bend, appearing flatter or bowing downwards. For these less blatant bends, our state-of-the-art Josam equipment can help read even the slightest warp.
The Frame Straightening Process
When you bring your truck or trailer in for a frame assessment first it will be set up with levels and laser sights. Sensors will then measure how far out of alignment the frame of your unit is. Both horizontal and vertical deviations are tracked, and the data is saved. Your unit will then be set up with a series of hydraulic presses, as well as chains, to push and pull the frame back into alignment according to the recorded data. Once the sensors determine the frame is back in alignment the equipment and sensors are removed, and the truck or trailer is reinspected for any discrepancies.
